If one wanted to record a concert, how would he go about it? equipment recommendations and tips would be appreciated.

Plus, is a soundboard recording one that the techs do? or is it a guy that tries to stand next the soundboard? Plus, is that the stupidest question you've ever heard?

A soundboard isn't necessarily done by the techs but you obviously have to have their permission to do it. Basically you plug your recorder into the soundboard. Depending on the band it may or may not be the best way to record since what you are getting is what goes through the monitors, not the house speakers meaning it can often be dominated by vocals and drums.

Veteran tapers here will be more qualified to address the equipment issue but you also may want check out forums for tapers and read the FAQs.
